Heywood Healthcare honored 179 employees on October 19th during its annual Service Awards recognition dinner.

"We love to celebrate longevity and achievement because it is part of the culture," said Heywood Healthcare President and CEO Win Brown. "Our employees give so much of themselves to our patients and our communities. They deserve a night dedicated to recognizing their important contributions."

Employees were treated to a gourmet buffet before being recognized for their service , some as long as 45 years, to Heywood and Athol Hospitals, Winchendon Health Center, Heywood Rehabilitation Center and Heywood Medical Group.

Candi Hoag and Jeannie Sanborn celebrated 40 years at Heywood Hospital while Chris Desreuisseau received recognition for 40 years at Athol Hospital. Ann Abare, Alice Hardy, Ron Ladeau, Robbie Lajoie, Karen Millett and Judy Tanguay-Dickman all celebrated 45 years of service to Heywood Hospital.

Employees are celebrated for their service every five years, and are able to choose a gift on each occasion.

The Daniel P. Moen Employee Excellence Award is also presented annually by Heywood Hospital to a five-year anniversary employee who most closely exemplifies the commitment, hard work, vision and dedication that are the legacy of past president Dan Moen’s administration. This year’s recipient was Sue Antonellis of Case Management, who was celebrating her 10-year anniversary.

Sue is a well-respected, highly professional nurse. A graduate of Boston College School of Nursing, she has had a diverse career, working in a variety of roles that include nurse educator, OR nurse, employee health nurse and office manager for the Winchendon Health Center. In Employee Health, Sue was known as a “trailblazer” as one of the first Utilization Review nurses.

Earlier this year, Sue transitioned to the role of Clinical Documentation Specialist in the Case Management Department. Although new to the role, Sue has gone above and beyond again to prove herself as an invaluable member of her team.
Athol Hospital also honored Chris Desreuisseau, a 40-year service anniversary employee, and Patty Whitfield, a 10-year employee, with the inaugural Meehan Award, which recognizes the five-year anniversary recipient who best exemplifies the work ethic, dedication, vision and outstanding service that exemplifies Board of Trustee and long-time supporter of Athol Hospital, Jim Meehan.
Chris began his employment at Athol Hospital in the Food Service Department, but found his home in Environmental Services. He is extremely reliable and dedicated – he walks to work each day, never arriving late or missing a shift. A long-standing Athol employee, Chris has seen many changes and stepped up during the Athol/Heywood partnership, going out of his way to help the new management adapt to the facility.

Patty Whitfield started her Athol career in the ICU and quickly became the Clinical Coordinator for the Medical/Surgical Unit. She brings a wealth of experience and extensive knowledge, working in multiple Critical Care Units from Washington DC to Maryland, New York and throughout Massachusetts.

Patty is a caring, dedicated and highly valued nurse with an affinity for all things cardiac. She is an educator at heart and shines when teaching and sharing her knowledge. Patty is known as the “glue” on her unit and is a selfless nurse, willing to do whatever is asked of her to benefit her patients, co-workers and the hospital.
This year, employees honored totaled 2,660 years of service.
