AtlantiCare to host sixth annual Diversity & Inclusion Event Event to focus on mental health and cultural issues

AtlantiCare will host its sixth annual Diversity & Inclusion Event, “Mental Health Matters,” Wednesday, October 11 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Stockton University’s Campus Center Event Room, 101 Vera King Farris Drive, Galloway Township, New Jersey. Doors will open at 4 p.m.

The interactive event will include a performance and presentation by the Mental Health Association of New Jersey’s Mental Health Players (NJMHP). Volunteers will depict realistic scenarios involving mental health and cultural issues. Attendees will learn about mental illness and the stigma that is often associated with having mental health challenges; as well as cultural differences that impact care. The audience will have the opportunity to interact with the performers and to ask questions.

AtlantiCare’s Employee Resource Groups will host the event, which is open to the community. It will be of particular interest to medical professionals, staff, volunteers, as well as college and high school students. The event will include hot and cold hors d’oeuvres.

AtlantiCare’s Diversity & Inclusion Council includes physicians, staff and leadership from throughout AtlantiCare, established Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). The ERGs help support the mission of the Diversity & Inclusion Council by educating staff about the culture/community; celebrating community/cultural holidays and events; representing AtlantiCare at community/cultural events; enhancing recruitment efforts; and identifying top health concerns and developing ideas for addressing these concerns. AtlantiCare ERG groups include African American, Asian Pacific American, persons with disabilities, Hispanic American, Interfaith, LGBTQ, and Military, and Women.

Through the work of its LGBT Employee Resource Group, AtlantiCare has been recognized as a “Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality” in the Human Rights Campaign’s Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) report in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. The HEI is an annual survey conducted by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the educational arm of the country’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) organization.
