Upcoming May Health Education Programs at Community Medical Center

Knowledge can be one of the best tools available to improve or maintain your health. Community Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, offers a variety of programs to help educate you and your loved ones about your health or procedures you are considering. Our programs are led by expert teams dedicated to improving the health and wellness of the community we serve.

The Center for Bariatrics will hold an informational seminar for those considering weight loss surgery on Monday, May 1 at 6 pm in the Auditorium at Community Medical Center, 99 Route 37 West, Toms River. Attendees will learn about surgical weight loss treatments and support services offered at the hospital. A support group will be held at 7 pm. The seminar and support group are free, but pre-registration is required by call 1.888.724.7123.
The Center for Diabetes, located at Riverwood Plaza, Building 1, Third Floor, 67 Route 37 West in Toms River, offers a variety of classes and support groups to help individuals gain control and successfully manage diabetes. The Diabetes Support Group will be held on Monday, May 15 at 1:30 pm, and the Insulin Pump Support Group will be held on Tuesday, May 16 at 7 pm. This month’s topic for both groups will be ‘Tools for Dealing with the Stress of Diabetes.’ For more information or to register, call 732.349.5757.

The J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer Center at Community Medical Center is dedicated to helping individuals diagnosed with cancer achieve the title of ‘survivor’. The center offers a variety of support groups and services caring for the physical and psychosocial needs of patients and their families.

This month, the American Cancer Society’s Look Good, Feel Better, a hair, makeup and skin care workshop for women dealing with the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, will be held on Monday, May 8 at 10 am. The ‘Nutrition & Your Cancer Diagnosis’ seminar, an oncology nutrition class for those newly diagnosed with cancer, will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at 10 am. The Total Joint and Spine Institute is dedicated to helping relieve pain, restore your independence and return you to your daily activities. Join Joseph Tauro, MD, a board certified orthopedic surgeon on Thursday, May 11 at 5:30 pm in the Auditorium at Community Medical Center for a discussion on what “next day” hip, knee or shoulder replacement surgery means and who is a candidate. Learn how using new surgical techniques you can get up and moving, and home the next day. Pre-registration is required for this free event by calling 732.557.8194.
