During National Diabetes Month in November, the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) will host educational events in the Poughkeepsie, Kingston and Port Jervis communities to spotlight the disease and offer support and management options for local residents.

“One in every 10 people lives with diabetes and some do not even know that they have it. Diabetes is the leading cause of heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, adult blindness and foot amputations,” said Donna Gibbons, RN, Diabetes Program Manager at Westchester Medical Center, the flagship of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network. “Many complications can be prevented or delayed with a multidisciplinary, supportive health network that offers information on self-care skills that can help people to fit diabetes into their everyday lives.”
