To further Newark Beth Israel Medical Center’s (NBIMC) commitment to providing diverse support services to the Newark community, The Newark Now – Family Success Center (FSC) Program is now located at NBIMC (182 Lyons Avenue, 2nd Floor) on Monday – through Thursday from 9 am- 4:30 pm and on Fridays from 1 pm – 4:30 pm. The Family Success Center at NBIMC and CHoNJ is the first hospital based FSC in New Jersey and provides a range of governmental and non-governmental services and support; including health insurance, senior services, family advocacy and more. Other services include promoting safety, well-being, and self-sufficiency for families who requestassistance at the Center sites.
“Our mission is to promote wellness and quality of life programs and services for residents of Newark and greater Essex County,” said John A. Brennan, MD, MPH, President and Chief Executive Officer of NBIMC and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey. “We arecommitted to the Newark community and to connecting services for easier access and better overall health.” Newark Now was founded in 2003 to provide Newark residents with skills, tools, and support to transform their neighborhoods.Today, Newark Now operates neighborhood-based Family Success Centers that are strength-based, culturally competent, and able to provide convenient and coordinated access to information, support, and resources that families need to be successful. The Centers provide: • Health Insurance Connections (Medicaid and NJ Family Care Applications) • Legal Service Referrals • Online SNAP (Food Stamp) Applications • Budgeting Workshops • Family Success Plans • Food Pantry Resources • Parenting Workshops • On-Site Referrals for HIV • Resume Assistance/ Employment Searches • Individual Mentorship and Family Advocacy • Senior Citizen Services In collaboration with local organizations, churches, and community partners, the Family Success Centers, founded by Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker, have a broader reach in the level and number of services that can be provided to individuals and families in need. Appointments are as scheduled, and walk-ins are welcome.
